Dinosaur

YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS.

When a huge meteor strikes Earth, a young dinosaur called Aladar and the animals that raised him try to reach safer ground. The same year as Disney released the silly Emperor’s New Groove, they also made this considerably more ambitious film with CGI dinosaurs placed in live-action locations. Impressive technology for its time, spectacularly showing how the animals try to survive in brutal environs. The action and James Newton Howard’s music score are the film’s biggest assets. Its weakness is a lack of engaging characters, hurting the impact of the story’s dramatic events.

2000-U.S. Animated. 82 min. Color. Directed by Ralph Zondag, Eric Leighton. Music: James Newton Howard. Voices of D.B. Sweeney (Aladar), Alfre Woodard (Plio), Ossie Davis (Yar), Max Casella, Hayden Panettiere, Samuel E. Wright… Julianna Margulies, Joan Plowright, Della Reese.
