THE GREATEST LOVE STORY EVER SOLD.
Based on a Rolling Stone article, this limited series dives into the details of what initially looked like a nonsense celebrity story, the 1995 theft of a sex tape starring Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. Turning into a global joke, the incident had devastating consequences on their marriage and Anderson’s career. The wild love affair between Pam and Tommy is the heart of the series, with perfect performances by Lily James and Sebastian Stan, but the filmmakers also target early 1990s culture, the rise of Internet and the misogynistic treatment of Anderson. Not enough material for its running time, but still very entertaining, laced with anger and humor.

Last word: “It was really important to me that we get to see what they’re like without the cameras on. Because a lot of what we know of Pamela and Tommy is when there’s a camera in front of them. There’s a fair amount of perception on them back in the ‘90s – whether it’s television, paparazzi, interviews – there’s always a certain performative nature to it. This is what they’re like when they’re alone and hang out and have their guard down. And it’s really important to me that we show that and what would feel like, as playful and easygoing as we could. So that was an interesting dance to find that line.” (Gillespie, Decider)
