YOU CAN’T STOP THE THUNDER.
Young racer Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise) wants to win the Indianapolis 500 and enlists the help of retired crew chief and car builder Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall). The team behind Top Gun (1986) returned for a similar adventure and scored another hit with audiences. The racing scenes are thunderingly forceful, boosted by terrific sound design and Hans Zimmer’s music score. Duvall is the stand-out in the cast and it’s fun watching Cruise and Nicole Kidman in their first movie together… but because of a thin story and stereotypical characters the emotions simply aren’t there.
