A biography that follows the Finnish author and illustrator Tove Jansson over ten years, from the end of World War II, as she creates the Moomin characters and explores her sexuality together with a male journalist (Shanti Roney) and a female theater director (Krista Kosonen). Similar in tone and style to Tom of Finland (2017), another biopic depicting a gay Finnish artist. Alma Pöysti is fine, but the film can’t seem to find an intriguing way to connect Jansson to her wildly creative Moomin books and comic strips.

2020-Finland-Sweden. 100 min. Color. Directed by Zaida Bergroth. Screenplay: Eeva Putro. Music: Matti Bye. Cast: Alma Pöysti (Tove Jansson), Krista Kosonen (Vivica Bandler), Shanti Roney (Atos Wirtanen), Joanna Haartti, Kajsa Ernst, Robert Enckell.

Trivia: Putro also has a prominent role in the cast.
