Event Horizon

INFINITE SPACE. INFINITE TERROR.

In 2047, a rescue vessel is headed for Neptune where a lost starship has suddenly reemerged. A sci-fi/horror flick that has gained a minor cult reputation over the years, but doesn’t deserve it. There is nothing particularly striking about this story that finds inspiration in classics like Solaris, Alien and The Shining. More tension than in many other films by Paul W.S. Anderson, and Sam Neill has the best role, but the potential to add greater depth to the characters remains unexplored by the filmmakers.

1997-U.S.-Britain. 95 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Cast: Laurence Fishburne (Captain Miller), Sam Neill (William Weir), Kathleen Quinlan (Peters), Joely Richardson, Richard T. Jones, Jack Noseworthy… Jason Isaacs.

Trivia: Anderson’s first cut was roughly 30 minutes longer and much more violent. Ever since, there has been talk of the excised footage but most of it is considered lost.
