SOME CRIMES DEFY TIME.
Philadelphia, 1988; beat cop Thomas Lockhart (Boyd Holbrook) is drawn into a series of spectacular, mysterious deaths, becoming obsessed with a killer who returns every ninth year. An action-thriller with sci-fi elements that starts out moderately intriguing, but loses its way. The cast is weak and it doesn’t help that we in the audience are ahead of Lockhart right from the start, no matter how many years he spends on this case. At the heart of it is an apocalyptic scenario, and a very familiar fantasy about how to stop it.
2019-U.S. 115 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jim Mickle. Cast: Boyd Holbrook (Thomas Lockhart), Cleopatra Coleman (Rya), Bokeem Woodbine (Maddox), Michael C. Hall, Rachel Keller, Rudi Dharmalingam.
Trivia: First shown at Fantastic Fest, then released to Netflix.
