Top chef Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) disappeared from his restaurant in Paris; when he shows up in London three years later, he’s sober and out to get a third Michelin star. There are plenty of mouth-watering dishes on display here and the movie does illustrate our contemporary fascination for cooking and food as an art form. Cooper is very convincing in the lead, the supporting cast is fine and it’s a very slick film… but not a satisfying meal. Ultimately, the story of this driven chef who’s prone to addiction is clichéd, both in its portrait of the kitchen milieu and Adam Jones himself.

2015-U.S. 101 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by John Wells. Screenplay: Steven Knight. Cast: Bradley Cooper (Adam Jones), Sienna Miller (Helene), Omar Sy (Michel), Daniel Brühl, Riccardo Scamarcio, Sam Keeley… Alicia Vikander, Matthew Rhys, Uma Thurman, Emma Thompson, Lily James.

Trivia: Michelle Williams and Marion Cotillard were allegedly considered for roles; at one point, David Fincher was up for directing duties, with Keanu Reeves in the lead.
