Micmacs

micmacsAfter getting shot in the head, Bazil (Dany Boon) becomes homeless in Paris and is ultimately adopted by a group of scavengers. Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet has described this fantasy (which begins with an imaginative connection to The Big Sleep (1946)) as a cross between his earlier Delicatessen and Amélie. Even though it is far from equally compelling, fans of his will enjoy the style of this film. Set in its own universe, the story is an attack on the global arms trade. Charming at times, but a mess and the lead character is uninvolving.

2009-France. 105 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Screenplay: Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Guillaume Laurant. Cinematography: Tetsuo Nagata. Cast: Dany Boon (Bazil), André Dussolier (Nicolas Thibault de Fenouillet), Nicolas Marié (François Marconi), Jean-Pierre Marielle, Yolande Moreau, Julie Ferrier… Omar Sy, Dominique Pinon.

Trivia: Original title: Micmacs à tire-larigot.
