The Cobbler

SAVING THE NEIGHBORHOOD ONE SOLE AT A TIME.

cobblerA Lower East Side cobbler (Adam Sandler) discovers that when he uses his fatherā€™s old stitching machine and tries on the customerā€™s shoes, he literally becomes this person. After making several critically hailed drama-comedies, director Tom McCarthy hit a brick wall with this fantasy, maybe because he cast Sandler in the lead. The reception was a bit unfair; the cast is far from a problem. As the film deals with issues relating to parenthood, thereā€™s a lot of emotion, but the story is ultimately neither funny nor moving enough.

2014-U.S. 99 min. Color. Directed byĀ Tom McCarthy. Screenplay: Tom McCarthy, Paul Sado. Cast: Adam Sandler (Max Simkin), Dan Stevens (Emiliano), Dustin Hoffman (Abraham Simkin), Steve Buscemi, Melonie Diaz, Ellen Barkinā€¦ Cliff ā€œMethod Manā€ Smith.
