“THE ONLY THING NECESSARY FOR EVIL TO FLOURISH IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING.” ā EDMUND BURKE
The story of how a young Austrian came to Germany, survived poverty, fought in the first World War and by a combination of personal charisma and the right contacts became the most dynamic (and dangerous) politician of the 1920s is certainly a dramatic one, but this miniseries is too conventional. Maybe it needs Oliver Stone to shake things up. Money has been spent on recreating the environs and well-known actors have been hired; Robert Carlyle brings us a hateful and disturbed young Hitler, but is not entirely convincing, and Peter OāToole chews the scenery as the geriatric Hindenburg.Ā
