Duplicity

OUTWIT. OUTSPY. OUTSMART. OUTPLAY. THEN GET OUT.

Two corporate spies (Julia Roberts, Clive Owen) get mixed up in a high-stakes game between two rival corporations… and each other. Director Tony Gilroy followed up on the success of Michael Clayton (2007) with another film featuring Tom Wilkinson, New York locations and a James Newton Howard score… but this one is a romantic thriller. The problem is that the story is convoluted and Gilroy’s touch anything but light, resulting in a long movie that drags at times. Still, it’s a clever set-up and the two stars are attractive. And you’ve got to love Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti’s first scene together.

2009-U.S. 125 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed byĀ Tony Gilroy. Music: James Newton Howard. Cast: Julia Roberts (Claire Stenwick), Clive Owen (Ray Koval), Tom Wilkinson (Howard Tully), Paul Giamatti (Richard Garsik), Tom McCarthy, Denis O’Hare… Ulrich Thomsen.
