IT’S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY. IT’S ABOUT THE MONEY.
A gang of con artists, led by the very confident Jake Vig (Edward Burns), is forced to do a job for a mob boss; a banker is the target. Director James Foley’s stab at making a film in the vein of Quentin Tarantino looks more like something Guy Ritchie would do. There’s a lot going on; blood is spilled, the dialogue is smart and the narrative jumps back and forth in time. Yet so little of it seems fresh and exciting; Jake narrating the story at gunpoint is not very convincing. Of course, Dustin Hoffman is fun as the ADD-inflicted mob boss.
