WHAT DO YOU SEE?
Convicted felon Collin Hoskins (Daveed Diggs) has three days left of his probation… which is when his best friend (Rafael Casal) decides to buy a gun. Much like another film about race set in Oakland, California, this one also received praise at the Sundance festival. Not as impressive as Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station (2013), Blindspotting is uneven and a little too melodramatic at times but still offers a fresh, unpolished perspective from the two leads who are childhood friends also in real life. Racial tension is a constant theme; gentrification of Oakland communities is another source of tension.
