The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

DISCOVER WHAT YOU ARE MADE OF.Ā

When journalist Rebecca Skloot (Rose Byrne) decides to write a book about the African-American woman whose cancer cells changed history, she learns how much the family has suffered over the decades. This reality-based film becomes primarily a showcase for Oprah Winfrey, whoā€™s very strong as one of Henrietta Lacksā€™s children who are grappling with grief, mental issues and the feeling that their mother was used for experiments without her role in history being properly recognized. Not surprisingly, race also plays a part. In spite of all the emotion on display though, the Lacks family isnā€™t easily penetrated here.

2017-U.S. Made for TV. 93 min. Color. Directed byĀ George C. Wolfe. Book: Rebecca Skloot. Cast: Oprah Winfrey (Deborah Lacks), Rose Byrne (Rebecca Skloot), RenĆ©e Elise Goldsberry (Henrietta Lacks), Courtney B. Vance, Reg E. Cathey, Ruben Santiago-Hudson.

Trivia: Co-executive produced by Winfrey.
