The Last Contract

THIS TIME THE WORLD DID NOT ASK WHY.

In 1985, Roger Nyman (Mikael Persbrandt) is recruited to the Swedish Security Service where he soon finds himself on the trail of an international assassin (Michael Kitchen) who has arrived in Sweden. Introducing a conspiracy theory on who shot Prime Minister Olof Palme on a Stockholm street in 1986, this paranoia thriller follows both the icy killer and a cop whose personal life is unraveling. The last half-hour has exciting moments, and Persbrandt works hard in the lead, but the movie is way too overheated and cliché-ridden.

1998-Sweden-Norway-Finland. 114 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Kjell Sundvall. Screenplay: Kjell Sundvall, Mats Arehn, Johan Bogaeus, HansÅke Gabrielsson, Steve Jansson. Cast: Mikael Persbrandt (Roger Nyman), Michael Kitchen (Ray Lambert), Pernilla August (Nina Nyman), Reine Brynolfsson, Bjørn Floberg, Cecilia Ljung… Per Ragnar, Anders Ekborg, Leif Andrée.

Trivia: Original title: Sista kontraktet.
