Diary of a Mad Black Woman

TIME HEALS THE HEART. FAITH HEALS THE REST.

diarymadblackwomanAfter cheating on and abusing her throughout their 18 years of marriage, wealthy attorney Charles McCarter (Steve Harris) finally kicks his wife (Kimberly Elise) out; her family helps her rebuild confidence. Playwright and actor Tyler Perry’s move into movies became the start of a successful franchise; his simplistic stories about the power of love and faith, laced with sugar and populated by cardboard characters, appealed to many. This one is largely silly, which is certainly underscored by Perry himself in drag, as Madea.

2005-U.S. 116 min. Color. Directed by Darren Grant. Screenplay, Play: Tyler Perry. Cast: Kimberly Elise (Helen McCarter), Steve Harris (Charles McCarter), Tyler Perry (Madea/Brian/Joe), Cicely Tyson, Shemar Moore, Tamara Taylor.

Trivia: Madea next appeared in Madea’s Family Reunion (2006).
