The Haunting in Connecticut

SOME THINGS CANNOT BE EXPLAINED.

In 1987, the Campbells move into a new home in Connecticut with their son (Kyle Gallner) who’s seriously ill; his condition makes him able to communicate with the spirits in the house. This horror movie is based on a real-life story, but the writers only borrow the premise. Anyone who’s seen The Amityville Horror (1979) and similar flicks know what to expect. It takes its sweet time generating any real interest, but there’s a few half-decent shocks, good acting and the family’s struggle is engaging on a minor level.

2009-U.S. 92 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Peter Cornwell. Cast: Virginia Madsen (Sara Campbell), Kyle Gallner (Matt Campbell), Elias Koteas (Popescu), Amanda Crew, Martin Donovan.

Trivia: Alternative version runs ten minutes longer. Followed by The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia (2013).
