The Blue Lagoon

A STORY OF NATURAL LOVE.

Two children are shipwrecked on an island along with a sailor; no one finds them, the kids grow up and their sexuality becomes a point of tension. Ridiculous but very popular remake of the 1949 movie that will appeal to anyone longing to be seduced by pretty images of a paradise island and the well-toned, sex-starved teens who live there. Looks like a shampoo commercial; nothing in the film feels genuine, the story is underdeveloped and the performances wooden.

1980-U.S. 104 min. Color. Directed by Randal Kleiser. Novel: Henry De Vere Stacpoole. Cinematography: Nestor Almendros. Cast: Brooke Shields (Emmeline), Christopher Atkins (Richard), Leo McKern (Paddy Button), William Daniels.

Trivia: Diane Lane and Matt Dillon were allegedly considered for the leads. Followed by Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991).

Razzie: Worst Actress (Shields).
