Dragonheart

YOU WILL BELIEVE.

In the tenth century, a dragon-slaying knight (Dennis Quaid) unites with Draco, the only living dragon left, to fight an evil king (David Thewlis). Director Rob Cohen followed up Daylight (1996) with another effects-laden movie. Some critics thought it was too violent for children and too childish for adults, and there’s something to it, but the script has interesting ingredients. Quaid is a fine hero and Sean Connery provides the dragon with an authoritative voice that fits the character. The music and the effects make up for the story’s shortcomings.

1996-U.S. 103 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Rob Cohen. Music: Randy Edelman. Cast: Dennis Quaid (Bowen), Sean Connery (Draco), David Thewlis (Einon), Dina Meyer, Julie Christie, Pete Postlethwaite. Voice of John Gielgud.

Trivia: Followed by a video sequel, Dragonheart: A New Beginning (2000), and three prequels, starting with Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer’s Curse (2015).
