Dracula: Dead and Loving It

YOU’LL DIE LAUGHING. THEN YOU’LL RISE FROM THE DEAD AND LAUGH ONCE MORE.

Director Mel Brooks is back spoofing horror movies once again, but this is a far cry from Young Frankenstein (1974). The target is Dracula and the story is familiar from every other movie about the count; he leaves his Transylvanian castle for London where he expects to find the woman he loves. Leslie Nielsen may seem like an ideal choice for the part, but Peter MacNicol, Harvey Korman and the director himself are funnier. Many of the jokes are anemic, but there are a few amusing moments.

1995-U.S. 90 min. Color. Produced and directed by Mel Brooks. Screenplay: Mel Brooks, Rudy De Luca, Steve Haberman. Cast: Leslie Nielsen (Dracula), Peter MacNicol (Thomas Renfield), Steven Weber (Jonathan Harker), Amy Yasbeck (Mina), Lysette Anthony, Harvey Korman… Mel Brooks, Anne Bancroft.
