After a few failed dates, Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones) meets a likable man (Sebastian Stan) at a supermarket… but ends up his prisoner. The director’s first film addresses the genuine horrors of dating, presenting a dreamboat who suddenly appears off the dating apps and sweeps Noa off her feet. The filmmakers hit all the right, charming notes depicting her and Steve’s romance, but we can sense trouble brewing. The film’s greatest challenge is surprising us, because even when it veers into cannibal territory there’s little that seems fresh. Still, cheeky enough, with fetching performances by the two leads.

2022-U.S. 114 min. Color. Directed by Mimi Cave. Cast: Daisy Edgar-Jones (Noa), Sebastian Stan (Steve/Brendan), Jonica T. Gibbs (Mollie), Charlotte Le Bon, Dayo Okeniyi.

Trivia: Co-produced by Adam McKay. First shown at the Sundance film festival, then released on Hulu and Disney +.
