HOPE BURNS BRIGHTEST IN THE COLD.
When a war becomes increasingly difficult to win, Caroline Edh (Noomi Rapace) and a group of fellow soldiers are ordered to bring a secret package through an icy archipelago; they’re told it will guarantee victory. Adam Berg’s feature debut is an adaptation of a novel where the gender of the leading character has been changed to fit Rapace; she’s solid as a skilled soldier who does what she’s told but finds reason to question her superiors’ motives. A well-crafted action thriller that benefits from a tense, eerie atmosphere. That goes a long way, even if the film loses steam in the last half-hour.
