Pilgrims

RELIVING THE PAST CANNOT CHANGE IT.

Four years after a murder, the victim’s brother (Giedrius Kiela) and girlfriend (Gabija Bargailaite) journey to the small town where it happened, trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. The director’s feature film debut is not a mystery, justice has already been served, but rather a very slow-moving portrait of two lost souls retracing every step leading up to the crime, as if they’re pilgrims in a foreign land. An interesting idea that doesn’t really lead anywhere. The lead characters are ill-matched and ultimately too lackluster to make us care.

2021-Lithuania. 92 min. Color. Written, directed and edited by Laurynas Bareisa. Cast: Gabija Bargailaite (Indre), Giedrius Kiela (Paulius), Indre Patkauskaite (Ieva), Paulius Markevicius, Julius Zalakevicius.

Trivia: Original title: Piligrimai.
