The Workshop

Parisian novelist Olivia Dejazet (Marina FoĆÆs) runs a writing workshop with a group of teenagers in the south of France; as they try to invent a mystery, conflicts are laid bare. A drama that illustrates the difficulties and inability of leftwing intellectuals and far-right radicals to understand each other; obviously, there wonā€™t be much of a desire to do so. Good cast and alluring environs in an interesting film that addresses a confused sense of hopelessness and offers no answers; thereā€™s also a curious ambivalence in the novelistā€™s attitude to the troubled young man she finds intriguing.

2017-France. 114 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Laurent Cantet. Screenplay: Laurent Cantet, Robin Campillo. Cast: Marina FoĆÆs (Olivia Dejazet), Matthieu Lucci (Antoine), Florian Beaujean (Etienne), Doudou Masta, MĆ©lissa Guilbert, Warda Rammach.

Trivia: Original title: Lā€™atelier.Ā
