Jungle Cruise

In 1916, British scientist Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) and her brother (Jack Whitehall) hire a skipper (Dwayne Johnson) to take them down the Amazon River in order to find the Tree of Life. Thanks to the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, turning amusement park attractions into movies is no longer such a crazy idea. Borrows heavily from Indiana Jones films and Pirates (including an army of dead conquistadores who come alive)… and even finds inspiration in The African Queen. A merry ride, for sure, but lacking an original thought.

2021-U.S. 127 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Screenplay: Michael Green, Glenn Ficarra, John Requa. Cast: Dwayne Johnson (Frank Wolff), Emily Blunt (Lily Houghton), Édgar Ramirez (Lope de Aguirre), Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, Paul Giamatti.

Trivia: Co-produced by Johnson. Filmed in 2018 and delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
