The Last Duel

THE TRUE STORY OF A WOMAN WHO DIVIDED A NATION AND MADE HISTORY.

Paris, 1386; when Marguerite de Carrouges (Jodie Comer) accuses Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver) of rape, her husband (Matt Damon) challenges him to trial by combat. The story of the last legally sanctioned duel in Franceā€™s history is a #metoo tale for the Middle Ages, divided into three parts where the story is told from each perspective of the leading characters. Inevitably a bit of a drag at times because of the repetition, but still compelling, with the duel serving as a memorably gruesome climax. The Rashomon-like structure emphasizes the striking difference between how perpetrator and victim view the rape. Comer stands out in the cast.
