Lisey’s Story

Two years after the murder of her famous novelist husband Scott (Clive Owen), Lisey Landon (Julianne Moore) is pressured by an insane fan (Dane DeHaan) who wants her to release Scott’s unpublished manuscripts. Stephen King adapted one of his favorite novels for this limited series and it comes with great virtues, including attractive cinematography, as well as terrific acting from Moore, Joan Allen and DeHaan. Framed by an intriguing treasure hunt, this should reasonably have been a story rich in thrills and emotion, but it moves like molasses; comes alive in fits and starts, but never as haunting as King intended.

2021-U.S. Made for TV. 401 min. Color. Directed by Pablo Larraín. Teleplay, Novel: Stephen King. Cinematography: Darius Khondji. Cast: Julianne Moore (Lisey Landon), Clive Owen (Scott Landon), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Darla Debusher), Dane DeHaan, Joan Allen, Michael Pitt.
