Hampstead

LOVE CAN GROW WHERE YOU LEAST EXPECT IT.

In London, American widow Emily Walters (Diane Keaton) falls for Donald Horner (Brendan Gleeson), a squatter who’s fighting in court to keep the makeshift camp he built in a part of Hampstead Heath. This movie may be based on a real person, Harry Hallowes, who won his court case in 2007, but the filmmakers still manage to make it look like just another one of Keaton’s many romantic comedies. There’s no depth in the film’s message not to judge a cat by its color, but it’s refreshing to see Keaton in British environs and the film benefits a lot from her and Gleeson’s rapport.

2017-Britain. 103 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Joel Hopkins. Cast: Diane Keaton (Emily Walters), Brendan Gleeson (Donald Horner), James Norton (Philip), Lesley Manville, Jason Watkins, Phil Davis… Simon Callow.
