mother!

SEEING IS BELIEVING.

A poet (Javier Bardem) invites a stranger (Ed Harris) into his and his wife’s (Jennifer Lawrence) home, which is the beginning of an odd series of events. More or less a psychological horror movie likely inspired by Roman Polanski with a house that seems to be alive and a woman who’s tormented by strangers who all act as if she’s the weird one. Lawrence is good and so is the sound design… but it’s repetitive and hard to glean anything worthwhile out of this cacophony.

2017-U.S. 121 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Darren Aronofsky. Cast: Jennifer Lawrence (Mother), Javier Bardem (Him), Ed Harris (Man), Michelle Pfeiffer (Woman), Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson… Kristen Wiig.
