Ryan Murphy was a producer and co-writer on this limited series where we follow the rise and fall of the fashion designer Halston who made a name for himself in haute couture in the 1960s, finding a friend in Liza Minnelli, a lover in a Venezuelan-born artist and perhaps a little too much fun at Studio 54 before losing control of his own brand in the 1980s. As in most Murphy productions, glamour and style matter a lot, but Ewan McGregor is a flamboyant treat, transcending the cliché as a man who worked hard to put the rural Indiana of his teens far behind him.
