The Woman in the Window

SEEING IS BELIEVING.

Anna Fox (Amy Adams), an agoraphobic who also drinks too much, meets the wife (Julianne Moore) of a new neighbor (Gary Oldman) across the street… but then the woman disappears. On paper, this adaptation of A.J. Finn’s page-turner should have been a sure thing, but the filmmakers seem to have confused the source material with a Grand Guignol play, emphasizing horror effects and over-the-top performances. The novel made us understand and empathize with the leading character to a much greater degree.

2021-U.S. VOD. 100 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Joe Wright. Screenplay: Tracy Letts. Novel: A.J. Finn. Cast: Amy Adams (Anna Fox), Gary Oldman (Alistair Russell), Anthony Mackie (Edward Fox), Fred Hechinger, Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry… Jennifer Jason Leigh, Julianne Moore, Tracy Letts.

Trivia: Filmed in 2018.
