Greenland

When fragments of a comet hit Earth with catastrophic consequences, engineer John Garrity (Gerard Butler) learns that he and his family have been selected for evacuation by the U.S. government. Butler is reunited with his Angel Has Fallen (2019) director for a disaster movie that tries hard to focus on the relationships between family members, while also keeping them apart for the sake of tension. Not-bad visual effects give the movie a boost. Diverting enough, but might’ve been more emotional with a stronger cast and characters.

2020-U.S. 119 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Ric Roman Waugh. Cast: Gerard Butler (John Garrity), Morena Baccarin (Allison Garrity), Scott Glenn (Dale), David Denman, Hope Davis, Roger Dale Floyd.

Trivia: At one point, Chris Evans was reportedly meant to star, with Neill Blomkamp directing.
