After the melting of the polar ice caps, Earth has become one vast ocean; a drifter (Kevin Costner) reaches an atoll that is subsequently attacked by a pirate gangā¦ The director reunited with Costner after Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) for an epic that was plagued by rifts behind the scenes and a ballooning price tag. Everybody predicted a fiasco, but got an OK adventure with elaborate sets, essentially a wet Western that might have been great had George Miller directed it. The story is nothing special, but an over-the-top Dennis Hopper is fun to watch.
