The Red Sea Diving Resort

In the early 1980s, hundreds of Ethiopian Jews make their way to Israel thanks to a team of Mossad agents posing as managers of a Sudanese Red Sea resort. Another tale where clever Mossad operatives employ unorthodox methods in order to protect their people, this time with a climax that is going to remind audiences of the far superior Argo (2012). This thriller was inspired by amazing real-life events; in his directing debut, Gideon Raff offers a few lighter touches, but on the whole it’s dramatically inert.

2019-U.S. 129 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Gideon Raff. Cast: Chris Evans (Ari Levinson), Michael K. Williams (Kabede Bimro), Haley Bennett (Rachel Reiter), Michiel Huisman, Alessandro Nivola, Greg Kinnear… Ben Kingsley.

Trivia: First shown at a San Francisco film festival, then released to Netflix.
