Why Are We Creative: The Centipede’s Dilemma

German filmmaker Hermann Vaske spent 30 years working on various projects, but always returned to the fundamental question asked in the title of this documentary. As he meets one celebrity after the other while traveling all over Europe and the U.S., these undeniably creative people are sometimes startled to be asked that question and try to come up with an intelligent answer (or avoid it). Some viewers may feel inspired, but watching these celebrities struggle with the question is always far less interesting than their actual work. Amusingly, Michael Haneke tells an anecdote that undermines the whole premise of the movie.

2019-Germany. 84 min. Color. Directed by Hermann Vaske.
