The Highwaymen

THE LEGENDS WHO TOOK DOWN BONNIE AND CLYDE.

We all know the story of how Bonnie and Clyde met, went on a crime spree and were finally killed in an ambush in 1934; Arthur Pennā€™s 1967 movie contributed to the romantic allure of the tale. This one follows two of the men who hunted the infamous couple, sympathetically played by the two stars as a bit over-the-hill but smarter than Hooverā€™s cocky younger agents. No trace of romance here; a fitfully interesting story that suffers from a bloated running time and lackluster treatment.

2019-U.S. 132 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ John Lee Hancock. Cast: Kevin Costner (Frank Hamer), Woody Harrelson (Maney Gault), Kathy Bates (Miriam ā€Maā€ Ferguson), John Carroll Lynch, Thomas Mann, Kim Dickensā€¦ William Sadler.

Trivia: Co-executive produced by Costner and Harrelson. Years earlier, the project was reportedly considered for Robert Redford and Paul Newman. At one point, Liam Neeson was allegedly also considered.
