The Curse of La Llorona

SHE WANTS YOUR CHILDREN.

In 1973, social worker Anna Tate-Garcia (Linda Cardellini) accidentally releases an evil spirit, La Llorona, that immediately goes after her two kids. Another entry in the Conjuring universe (with a brief nod to Annabelle (2014)), this time introducing a ghost inspired by an actual Mexican folk tale, a weeping woman who drowned her children and now wants fresh victims. Cardellini is good as the widow whose home is invaded by the spirit. A few shocks deliver, but not enough to stand out; Raymond Cruz gives a wooden performance as a shaman.

2019-U.S. 93 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Michael Chaves. Cast: Linda Cardellini (Anna Tate-Garcia), Raymond Cruz (Rafael Olvera), Patricia Velásquez (Patricia Alvarez), Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen, Roman Christou, Marisol Ramirez.

Trivia: Co-produced by James Wan. Tony Amendola appears as Father Perez, a character he also played in Annabelle.
