The German Doctor

Argentina, 1960; former Auschwitz doctor Josef Mengele (√Älex Brendem√ľhl) is on the run from justice and becomes intrigued by a young family he meets. A fictitious story imagining what might happen if the notorious ‚ÄĚAngel of Death‚ÄĚ became involved with regular people who have medical issues, far away from Auschwitz; much of the film is seen through the eyes of a bullied girl who bonds with Mengele. An intriguing idea for a movie, but the family gets in the way of a closer look at Mengele, his ideology and past.

2013-Argentina-France-Spain-Norway. 93 min. Color. Widescreen. Direction, Novel and Screenplay by¬†Luc√≠a Puenzo (‚ÄĚWakolda‚ÄĚ). Cast: √Älex Brendem√ľhl (Helmut Gregor/Josef Mengele), Florencia Bado (Lilith), Diego Peretti (Enzo), Natalia Oreiro, Elena Roger, Guillermo Pfening.¬†

Trivia: Original title: Wakolda.
