THE LEGEND HAD IT COMING…
Six years after Spaceballs, Mel Brooks returned to his movie spoofs, this time attacking the Robin Hood legend, particularly as seen in the classic Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) is also an obvious target and Brooks finds plenty of material in other cultural phenomena; one of his best ideas is having Dom DeLuise play a very Brando-esque godfather. Cary Elwes does a serviceable Errol Flynn imitation, but the script is packed with jokes that are more silly than funny.
