Look Who’s Talking

HE’S HIP, HE’S COOL, AND HE’S ONLY 3 MONTHS OLD.

New York accountant Mollie Jensen (Kirstie Alley) becomes pregnant, but the married man she had sex with is out of the picture; maybe a childish cab driver (John Travolta) is a suitable replacement? One of the directorā€™s biggest commercial hits was also a comeback for Travolta. The filmā€™s main gimmick, where we can hear what baby Mikey is thinking (Bruce Willis providing his laidback voice), is never as much fun as one could hope. Still, Mikey is adorable and Amy Heckerling provides a female perspective that wasnā€™t exactly common at the time.

1989-U.S. 90 min. Color. Written and directed byĀ Amy Heckerling. Cast: John Travolta (James Ubriacco), Kirstie Alley (Mollie Jensen), Olympia Dukakis (Rosie), George Segal, Abe Vigoda. Voices of Bruce Willis, Joan Rivers.

Trivia: Followed by two sequels, starting with Look Whoā€™s Talking Too (1990), and a TV series, Baby Talk (1991-1992).
