THE WEEK AMERICA WENT TABLOID.Ā
As Democratic senator Gary Hart (Hugh Jackman) embarks in 1987 on another campaign for the presidency, reporters get wind of a possible extramarital affair⦠Matt Baiās book showed us how American journalism was transformed because of the āMonkey Businessā scandal, but the impact is lessened onscreen, perhaps because weāve seen these stories so many times before and the academic lessons of what happened were better captured in the book. Still, Jackman is perfect as Hart, a brilliant political thinker who suffered from poor personal judgment. Interesting as a comparison to our times, but hardly riveting.
