Ocean’s Eight

EVERY CON HAS ITS PROS.

Danny Ocean’s sister Debbie (Sandra Bullock) is released from prison and assembles a gang that will steal a valuable necklace during the Met gala. One decade after Ocean’s Thirteen came this spin-off featuring a fabulous lineup of women. The movie may lack Steven Soderbergh’s touch, but is an improvement on the last two films in the series, with suave performances by Bullock and Cate Blanchett. The story won’t impress anyone, but the movie makes fine use of the formula and the Met gala itself. Amusing supporting efforts from Anne Hathaway (as a movie star) and James Corden.

2018-U.S. 110 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Gary Ross. Cast: Sandra Bullock (Debbie Ocean), Cate Blanchett (Lou), Anne Hathaway (Daphne Kluger), Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina… Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, James Corden, Dakota Fanning, Elliott Gould, Griffin Dunne. Cameos: Anna Wintour, Katie Holmes, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Olivia Munn, Heidi Klum, John McEnroe, Tommy Hilfiger, Common.

Trivia: Co-produced by Soderbergh. Jennifer Lawrence was allegedly considered for a leading role.
