HE’S CRUDE. HE’S CRASS. HE’S FAMILY.Ā
When they have to leave for Indianapolis to deal with a family crisis, a suburban Chicago couple reluctantly call the unemployed, irresponsible uncle Buck (John Candy) to look after the kids. A comedy that offers perhaps Candyās most likable performance as the neāer-do-well whose sole purpose in the movie is to mature, become a role model and finally marry the girlfriend whoās been waiting for him to shape up. Predictable, but Candy is funny, charming and believable. Much of the story focuses on his antagonistic relationship with the 15-year-old niece, but his scenes with Macaulay Culkin are bigger highlights.
