The Party

A COMEDY OF TRAGIC PROPORTIONS.Ā

After being announced as shadow minister for health, Janet (Kristin Scott Thomas) is having a group of friends and allies over to celebrate, but some of them have startling news. A well-received comedy from Sally Potter that satirizes politics by arranging a dinner that turns into a farce even before thereā€™s any food. Surprises are served, and Potter saves the best one for the last shot, but the pace is a little too frenzied right from the start and even if the dialogue has moments there are no big laughs. Many critics disagreed though, and the cast is an acerbic treat.

2017-Britain. 71 min. B/W. Widescreen. Written and directed byĀ Sally Potter. Cast: Kristin Scott Thomas (Janet), Timothy Spall (Bill), Patricia Clarkson (April), Cillian Murphy, Bruno Ganz, Cherry Jonesā€¦ Emily Mortimer.
