A DISTRICT ATTORNEY OUT FOR A CONVICTION. A NEW LAWYER OUT OF HER LEAGUE. A YOUNG BOY WHO KNEW TOO MUCH.
After witnessing a mob attorney’s suicide, and learning his secrets, 11-year-old Mark (Brad Renfro) finds himself in danger; attorney Reggie Love (Susan Sarandon) tries to protect him from the mob and the authorities. Joel Schumacher’s first John Grisham adaptation is a well made thriller with a lot of tension and interesting characters, including a female attorney who battled alcoholism and now tries to survive in a male-dominated field, and a District Attorney called ”The Reverend” who sees the case as his chance to become governor. Unremarkable story, but solidly told and a great cast; watching Sarandon and young Renfro together is a treat.
