Gerald’s Game

Jessie Burlingame (Carla Gugino) lets her husband (Bruce Greenwood) handcuff her to the bedpost in an isolated cabin as part of a sex game, but she soon finds herself in real danger. A thriller that plays out in similar vein to the director’s Hush (2016) that was also set in an isolated house in the countryside where it’s hard to escape danger. This story largely takes place in a bedroom where the trapped lead begins to hear voices, experience hallucinations and must deal with horrors of her past… as well as a hungry dog. A claustrophobic and therapeutic chamber play with many nods to familiar Stephen King ingredients, very well performed by the two leads.

2017-U.S. 103 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed and edited byĀ Mike Flanagan. Novel: Stephen King. Cast: Carla Gugino (Jessie Burlingame), Bruce Greenwood (Gerald Burlingame), Carel Struycken (Moonlight Man), Henry Thomas, Chiara Aurelia.

Trivia: First shown at the Fantastic Fest film festival, then released on Netflix.
