The Founder

HE TOOK SOMEONE ELSE’S IDEA AND AMERICA ATE IT UP.

In 1954, mediocre salesman Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton) meets the McDonald brothers (Nick Offerman, John Carroll Lynch) who’ve come up with novel ideas for their hamburger restaurant in San Bernardino; Ray immediately sees a chance to make money. The birth of the world’s biggest chain of fast-food restaurants wasn’t pretty; as the film progresses, Kroc becomes increasingly ruthless in his quest to cheat the brothers out of their business. A compelling drama, passionately performed by Keaton as the heartless business genius behind McDonald’s, and Offerman and Lynch who are sweet… but the film itself is a little too workmanlike.

2016-U.S. 115 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by John Lee Hancock. Cast: Michael Keaton (Ray Kroc), Nick Offerman (Richard ”Dick” McDonald), John Carroll Lynch (Maurice ”Mac” McDonald), Linda Cardellini, Patrick Wilson, B.J. Novak… Laura Dern.

Trivia: Co-produced by Jeremy Renner. The Coen Brothers were allegedly considered for directing duties; Tom Hanks as Ray.
