Independence Day: Resurgence

WE HAD TWENTY YEARS TO PREPARE. SO DID THEY.

Twenty years after the war that put an end to a global alien invasion, there are troubling signs that the aggressive extra-terrestrials are mounting another attack. The director and many of the original actors returned for a belated 3D sequel that basically repeats the same formula, but this time the visual effects don’t seem as groundbreaking as they did two decades ago. One of the action scenes is in fact more reminiscent of the director’s 2012 (2009). The veteran cast is a welcome sight, but the newcomers are less interesting.

2016-U.S. 120 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Roland Emmerich. Screenplay: Nicolas Wright, James A. Woods, Dean Devlin, Roland Emmerich, James Vanderbilt. Cast: Liam Hemsworth (Jake Morrison), Jeff Goldblum (David Levinson), Bill Pullman (Thomas J. Whitmore), Jessie T. Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward… William Fichtner, Judd Hirsch, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Robert Loggia.

Trivia: Loggia’s final film. Susan Sarandon was allegedly considered for a role.
