YOU WERE RIGHT TO BE AFRAID OF THE DARK.
Rebecca (Teresa Palmer) is contacted by her young half-brother (Gabriel Bateman); heās afraid to stay with their mother (Maria Bello) who has a history of mental problems⦠and now also seems to be in contact with a dark figure. Swedish director David F. Sandbergās 2013 short of the same title has been expanded for his feature film debut with decent results. Echoing Mama (2013), the filmmakers (including horror wiz James Wan) come up with a scary premise and deliver a few nice shocks along the way, even though thereās nothing terribly original about individual scenes or the story of the shadowy āDianaā. Palmer is likable in the lead.Ā
