Legend

THERE MAY NEVER BE ANOTHER DAWN.

legend85The Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry) orders goblins to kill two unicorns and steal their horns; he will use them to free himself from his isolation. Ridley Scottā€™s attempt to make a fairy tale in the dark, fantastical style of the Brothers Grimm has the same problem as his Blade Runner (1982) ā€“ amazing to behold, but the story might put you to sleep. Evil is represented by a diabolical figure, played with relish by Curry, good by Mia Sara and Tom Cruiseā€™s sweet (and dull) characters. Noisy and messy, but the magical forest is beautifully evocative.Ā

1985-Britain. 89 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Ridley Scott. Cinematography: Alex Thomson. Makeup: Rob Bottin, Peter Robb-King. Cast: Tom Cruise (Jack), Mia Sara (Lily), Tim Curry (Darkness), David Bennent, Alice Playten, Billy Barty.

Trivia: The directorā€™s cut runs 113 min. The film was released in the U.S. with a music score by Tangerine Dream; in Europe it was scored by Jerry Goldsmith. Johnny Depp and Robert Downey, Jr. were allegedly considered for Cruiseā€™s part.
